What does the future look like?

We've already been asked four times recently to present our view on what the future of ICT looks like.

It is of course hard to give a definitive view. At the moment we are very interested in

 the convergence agenda - producing a collation of digital services in acceptable packages on multiple devices - and are excited locally regarding the forthcoming Digital Region project to bring optical fibre connections - now as cost effective as copper -  into Yorkshire homes and businesses.

We imagine a home five years hence without any of the currently accepted devices in it. Gone will be the  DVD, CD, PC, Telephone, Radio & Burglar alarm, replaced by on demand digital services and a range of ambient intuitive interfaces embedded in other everyday objects. This will affect the way in which we consume services and react to real-time events.

One thing is clear: the ability to prove that we are who we say we are will continue to rise in everyday importance and AIDC technologies will delivery that ID.
